LIVING MOMENTS N° 7
33 KITZBUEHEL I ON THE TRAIL OF A LEGEND Living Moments Closely related to the great visionary Franz Reisch , the myth of the Hah- nenkamm race, which celebrated its 80 th anniversary this year, developed in the 1930s. The 50s and 60s were marked by many Kitzbuehel ski leg- ends, such as Ernst Hinterseer, Anderl Molterer, Hias Leitner and of course Toni Sailer , who said in his autobiog- raphy: “In the 1950s, Kitzbuehel for skiing was what the Cannes Film Fes- tival was for cinema”. So, it comes as no surprise that the idea of the Ski World Cup was born here and that it was also a ski racer from Kitzbuehel, who was the first and so far only to win a World Cup Slalom for his hometown in 1974 - Hansi Hinterseer , who inspires fans internationally today as a pop star and entertainer. Dear Ms. Reisch, what do you think your great-grandfather would wish for today’s modern Kitzbuehel over the course of time? SR: ”The extraordinary development of our beloved “Stadl” has contributed to the great international popularity of the entire region of the Kitzbuehel Alps over the past decades, from which guests and locals alike bene- fit. Many things have become more modern, more efficient and larger. However, some things should be slowed down again and the old values of being down-to-earth and modesty should be recalled. My great-grand- father would also be proud of the fact that his vision to bring tourism to Kitzbuehel and thereby to make the entire region interesting and attractive has become what many people who originally came here as guests now call their home.“ Links: Illustrierte Zeitschrift für den Schneeschuhsport aus dem Jahr 1893.
