Thus each one of Dahan’s creations is a unique piece: “This collection, in the highest-quality silk, is my answer to the mass production of the textile industry”, explains Dahan, who plans to produce only seven pieces per design, in a range of sizes – ready to wear or made to measure. The motifs used in the entire collection, like those on the foulard, are drawn from the art photogra- phy of the designer, who developed his enthusiasm for the world of photography early on in life. At the age of 14, the young Frenchman – having also discovered a love of drawing – began his training at the academy for haute couture in Paris, graduating with what was then the highest grade the academy had ever awarded. He soon found himself working side by side with the desig- ners who were his role models: Yves Saint Laurent, Ted Lapidus, Pierre Cardin and many others. Paul designed and produced his first collections and opened his design firm in the cellar of his father’s printing works. The young Frenchman met his future wife, Elfi, during a trip to Austria and brought her back to Paris with him when he retur- ned. After seven years together in the fashion capital, during which Paul Dahan built up the magazine Fashion Tendence, the couple decided to settle in Kitzbühel, the city of Elfi’s birth.
