Die Metallanhänger tragen das Brand- zeichen der Familie Desbrull The ox parade in the hall is work by the Mallorcan artist,Pep Llambías.The metal tags show the brand of the family Desbrull Die Zimmer sind groß und hoch, manche haben offene Bäder The rooms are spacious and high, some have open bathrooms in sight, enjoying their sundowner by the pool. Son Brull had impressed them, it had exactly engaged their sense of life. We felt almost the same way about it. Even though we have loved the island for a long time, it becomes ever more attractive with every hotel. You feel like a treasure hunter whenever you discover such a jewel again. The locals must feel the same way, since stories about historic buildings only being purchased to save them from decay can be heard again and again. It was not until a lot later that they became hotels. Just as in this case. The changing story of the majestic building starts in the 12th century with the Moors, who besieged Mallorca and cultivated the land here. Three hundred years later, it belonged to Mr Desbrull whose name still lies on the property. In the 18th Century the Jesuit monks took over. The legends about their wealth gave the house the nickname “365 windows – one for each day.” Similarly, the inventive restaurant in Son Brull is called 365 for short, and now we have totally arrived in the present. The old walls create the fantastic background for the staging of modernity, creativity and style combined with attention and love which is a true pleasure. Upon arriving it became clear that it is all about our wellbeing. The plane came in early, the weather was hot and our rooms were not ready. Terrace, bar and pool were enticing, but being from northern Germany and dressed in travel clothes, we didn’t really find that exciting. Without any fuss, we were offered a luxurious shower in the spa, where we were able to change into clothes suitable for the weather, thus inspiring, with a sense of relief, the holiday spirit. The amenities of the large and stately public areas continued and we were welcomed by bold and modern chic. Polished con- crete on the floors, heavy linen in front of the windows, selected furniture design and modern art make for the perfect harmony. An elegant mix of urbanity and Zen philosophy has moved in beneath the old ceiling beams. The bathrooms feature indivi- dual designs; some are open and integrated into the living room. Ignasi Forteza had already given the shops of the trendy Mallorcan Lottusse shoes their look and, as a friend of the owner family, Suau, he was allowed to design the entire interior. Comfort and luxury to the last detail. The bath cosmetics are so fine that you even want to do without your favourite perfume, and for the night-time you get your desired pillow; everything is done to make your days on the island a sensual experience. The meals complement the programme. The young Mallorcan chef de cuisine learned his craft in star-studded restaurants on the continent, and the delicacies he has the waiters serve on the terrace are simply a pleasure. A church bell is ringing from afar, in harmony with the jingling of the sheep bells, red wine is sparkling in the glass competing with the stars, and we look forward to another day on this wonderful island. The people from Switzerland, by the way, did not see much of the island. They were completely happy with Son Brull – but they had already made a note of their next travelling date to Mallorca.
