After the clothes which you wear on your body, furniture is the most individ- ual statement you can make, says Nino Cerruti, the grand seigneur of glamor- ous inconspicuousness. This is why he unceremoniously bought a furniture company after making his farewells to Paris’ fashion world. He dressed Holly- wood legends like Michael Douglas, Clint Eastwood, Sharon Stone and Kath- leen Turner. Cerruti gave many big stars their casual, elegant image – both in movies and privately. He particularly remembers one Oscar Award event. “Suddenly everyone on stage was wear- ing my tuxedos – the host, the presenter of the award and the winner; that is worth an entry in the Guinness book”, he says laughing.“Today they can furnish their home with my furniture which is just as nice.” People bursting with ideas, like this tall Italian, are not satisfied with only one creative sphere. At nearly 80, he super- vises the needs of his companies almost daily as well as the traditional weaving mill where his incomparable woollens are made, and the furniture designing forge of Cerruti Baleri. He loves to co- operate with international designers, seeks out young talent and carries the vision of a sense of life which is beyond the scope of fashion. Pretty and comfor- table, yet full of esprit and class. His per- ception of that is the way he lives, together with his German girlfriend, Sibylla Jahr, in their apartment in Ham- burg. This is where he has a clear archi- tectural shell, a maisonette apartment with city chic, as an alternative to the Nino Cerruti und seine Lebensgefährtin Sibylla Jahr genießen ihre Zeit in Hamburg Nino Cerruti and his life partner, Sibylla Jahr, enjoy- ing their time in Hamburg The apartment is a rehearsal stage for Nino’ Design Company stately country house which has been inhabited by his family in northern Italy for many generations. Upon entering, you are immediately in the centre of things. No entrance, no hallway, the lay-out of the apartment is, so to say, intimate. No chi-chi, they say in Paris. Kitchen and dining room dominate the first floor – here is where face-to-face hospitality takes place. Around the glass table you find the most varied chairs. Every single one of them boasts well- thought out design and sophisticated
